Jamie Carragher didn’t miss the chance to take aim at Gary Neville after claiming bragging rights over his Sky Sports colleague on Saturday.
The pair captained Liverpool and Manchester United respectively at Old Trafford for the Legends of the North game, which raised more than £1.3million for the Manchester United foundation. It was the visitors, though, that got the better of their old rivals with a 3-1 victory thanks to Mark Gonzalez’s double and Luis Garcia’s opener, while Dimitar Berbatov scored from the penalty spot for the hosts.
The two sides will meet each other again in the return leg at Anfield in September — where Neville will no doubt be aiming for some revenge. For now though, it’s Carragher who has the upper hand in the battle of the pundits.

The pair rarely came into contact with each other during the game, but one incident did see Neville threaten to take on Carragher down the right-hand side. But the United captain slipped at the vital moment, enabling his counterpart to come across and deal with the danger.
“He bottled it,” Carragher told ManchesterWorld. “I think he saw who was coming and thought ‘I’m not having that’.
“I think he slipped, didn’t he? He was getting up and down that line, but the legs don’t move as quickly as they used to.”
With United chasing the game for much of the second half, Neville pushed further and further up the pitch as the match wore on. Unfortunately for the former defender, that provided Carragher with even more fuel.
“He was confusing himself,” Carragher joked. “Basically they lost all hope and belief then and starting playing as if it was in the schoolyard as kids.
