James Cameron Using a ‘Simple Hack’ to Achieve High Frame Rate on ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’

Marcus Lim James Cameron will be using a “simple hack” to bring high-frame rate projection to standard cinemas for his upcoming “Avatar: The Way of Water.” Previous attempts to distribute high frame rate versions of films globally have been largely unsuccessful with theatre owners and audiences, due to high projector upgrade costs and a perceived lack of cinema aesthetics. Instead, Cameron will be working within established digital cinema specifications which allow for digital cinema packages (DCP) screening at 48fps, which a majority of 3D enabled cinemas can project.

‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ Is ‘Very Much Based on’ James Cameron’s Family, Sigourney Weaver Says

Elizabeth Taylor “Avatar” star Sigourney Weaver revealed some insight about James Cameron’s highly anticipated “Avatar: The Way of Water,” which premieres Dec. 16. “The story is about family, about our families trying to stay together [and] the lengths to which we all go to protect each other and protect the place where we live,” Weaver told Variety at a special screening for her new film “The Good House” in New York City. “It’s very much based on Jim’s family and his joy in the family; and also, how vulnerable you are when you have children.” A hit for over a decade since its original release, “Avatar” once again dominated the box office with an impressive re-release in theaters. Ahead of the upcoming sequel, the 2009 sci-fi epic wowed with $30 million worldwide in ticket sales, as reported on Sept. 25.

Pornhub and Allies Accuse Instagram of Double Standard After Porn Site’s Account Permanently Banned

Todd Spangler NY Digital Editor Pornhub, the embattled adult-content site, lashed out at the decision by Instagram to permanently ban its account on the social network, citing Instagram’s practice of allowing celebrities like Kim Kardashian to post photos with nudity as an example of a double standard. In a letter addressed to senior execs at Meta, Instagram’s parent company, Pornhub — along with adult-industry trade group Free Speech Coalition, the Adult Performance Artists Guild and more than 60 adult performers — implored Instagram to “end all discrimination toward those involved in the adult industry” and to “immediately reinstate all accounts, including Pornhub, that have not violated any of Instagram’s Terms of Services.”

James Cameron Spent an Entire Year Writing an ‘Avatar 2’ Script, and Then He Threw It Out: It Wasn’t ‘Subconscious’ Enough

Zack Sharf James Cameron revealed to The Times UK that before “Avatar: The Way of Water” there was a full “Avatar 2” screenplay that was written and then thrown into the trash. It turns out that at least an entire year of the 13-year gap between 2009’s “Avatar” and 2022’s “The Way of Water” was spent on a screenplay that will never see the light of day. “When I sat down with my writers to start ‘Avatar 2,’ I said we cannot do the next one until we understand why the first one did so well,” Cameron said. “We must crack the code of what the hell happened.” Cameron and his team came to the following conclusion: “All films work on different levels. The first is surface, which is character, problem and resolution. The second is thematic. What is the movie trying to say? But ‘Avatar’ also works on a third level, the subconscious. I wrote an entire script for the sequel, read it and realized that it did not get to level three. Boom. Start over. That took a year.”

James Cameron Rejected Fox’s ‘Avatar’ Notes by Telling Execs: ‘I Made “Titanic”‘ and It Paid for Your Half-Billion Dollar Studio Lot

Zack Sharf James Cameron revealed in a recent interview with The New York Times that he shut down 20th Century Fox executives when they tried to battle him over a key sequence in “Avatar.” Cameron rejected the studio’s notes to make the film shorter and to trim the movie’s flying sequences by telling executives that he directed “Titanic” and thus paid for a large portion of the 20th Century Fox studio lot. “I think I felt, at the time, that we clashed over certain things,” Cameron said. “For example, the studio felt that the film should be shorter and that there was too much flying around on the ikran — what the humans call the banshees. Well, it turns out that’s what the audience loved the most, in terms of our exit polling and data gathering. And that’s a place where I just drew a line in the sand and said, ‘You know what? I made ‘Titanic.’ This building that we’re meeting in right now, this new half-billion dollar complex on your lot? ‘Titanic’ paid for that, so I get to do this.’”

James Cameron reveals he clashed with studio ahead of ‘Avatar’ release

James Cameron has detailed clashes he had with studio bosses ahead of the original Avatar‘s release.Ahead of the release of the long-awaited sequel Avatar: The Way Of Water later this year, the director claimed that executives wanted the 2009 blockbuster to be shorter, and wanted to cut down on characters flying around.“Well, it turns out that’s what the audience loved the most, in terms of our exit polling and data gathering,” Cameron told The New York Times.“And that’s a place where I just drew a line in the sand and said, ‘You know what? I made Titanic. This building that we’re meeting in right now, this new half-billion dollar complex on your lot? Titanic paid for that, so I get to do this.’”The director went on to claim that the studio later “thanked” him for standing his ground, and said that Avatar is “still competitive with everything that’s out there these days”.“I feel that my job is to protect their investment, often against their own judgment,” he continued.

James Cameron Says You’re Wrong About 3D: It’s ‘Not Really’ Dead Just Yet

Zack Sharf James Cameron wants you to know 3D isn’t dead just yet. The format was revitalized with the release of Cameron’s 2009 blockbuster “Avatar,” which remains the highest-grossing film of all time worldwide with $2.8 billion. “Avatar” was quickly followed by Tim Burton’s 3D “Alice in Wonderland,” which further proved the bonafides of a 3D release with its $1 billion worldwide gross. Countless 3D films followed, from comic book films to studio projects like “Gravity” and “Life of Pi.” A 3D release no longer holds much sway over audiences, although Cameron refutes the claim that it’s fully dead. “3D appears to most people to sort of be ‘over.’ But it’s really not over. It’s just been accepted,” Cameron said during a roundtable to promote the upcoming “Avatar” re-release (via /Film). “It’s just now a part of your choices when you go to the theater to see a big blockbuster movie.”
