It has been announced that Jamal Edwards - the late son of Loose Women host Brenda Edwards - has received a posthumous Music Industry Trusts (Mits) Award for his contribution to the music industry. Best known for founding youth broadcasting and film production company SBTV, Jamal passed away unexpectedly at the age of 31 in February, leaving his family and friends in utter shock.The much-missed star helped launch the careers of artists like Dave, Ed Sheeran and Jessie J. Now Jamal has received The Mits award for his pioneering work.
It will be presented to the Edwards family on Monday, November 7 at a gala ceremony at London's Grosvenor House Hotel. Following the news of her son's award, 53 year old Brenda said she knows Jamal will be "looking down on us" and "bursting with pride".
"It is very humbling for the family to be accepting this award on behalf of our beloved Jamal and we are delighted to have the Mits highlight the Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust alongside The Brit Trust and Nordoff Robbins," she said. "We know that Jamal will be looking down on us on 7th November – bursting with pride that his absolute love of the music industry and giving back to the less fortunate in society has been recognised in this way. "Thank you Mits!" The likes of Annie Lennox, Kylie Minogue, and Sir Elton John are among many of the previous recipients, as well as Bernie Taupin, Atlantic Records co-founder Ahmet Ertegun and Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis.
