'Jacques’ Love Island ordeal feels familiar - my mental health suffered,' admits Jake

This year's Love Island has been turbulent, to say the least, with four fiery bombshells now in the mix and Adam Collard, 26, asking to be "exclusive" with Paige Thorne, 24, just one week after his shock return. But it already feels like a lifetime ago since Jacques O'Neill made the brave decision to leave the Majorcan villa to prioritise himself and his mental health. And after thanking his family and his followers for all of the support since his exit, former 2021 islander Jake Cornish tells OK! he can relate to what Jacques, 23, is going through.
"I really wanted Jacques to win! He’s such a good fella, I was gutted he chose to leave," he tells us. "I have spoken to him since he left. He’s alright, you know.
I think he’s just taking it all in really. It’s a lot to adjust to." He explained: "I checked in on him to see if he and his family are doing ok.They’re doing well. I wish him all the best, really.
I’m going to see him soon anyway." It's been a year since Jake left the villa with ex girlfriend Liberty Poole, 22, and he recalls what it was like for him when he returned back home. Jake said: "I learned a lot about myself. You literally have to tell yourself, ‘Do not care what anyone thinks.’ Because even if you do something good, people will look down on you and go, ‘Why are you doing that?’ You can’t win.
"When I first came out of the villa for the first two, three months, my head was all over the place. My mental health was terrible.There was so much bad stuff online and false stories all the time. I was upset, my family was upset because they were trying to back me and people didn't believe it and all that malarkey."
