But at one point during the show, Richard made a comment about a Downing Street cleaner who was spotted live on air during co-star Louisa James' report from outside Number 10, ITV cut back to Richard laughing at the image of someone cleaning the front door amid the political chaos.
"I thought the image of Louisa as she was there live on camera describing the sinking of the government ship," the 62-year-old said. "The guy polishing the front door, the flunky polishing the front door behind her of Number 10."
He added: "That was so analogous to the deck chairs being rearranged on the deck of the Titanic. Who cares if the doors are shiny? It’s the least important thing
