One of the greatest boxers of all-time may have reached the end of his career. Manny Pacquiao, an eight-division world champion, lost to unheralded Yordenis Ugas on Saturday night by unanimous decision. At age 42, it was a disheartening loss for Pacquiao, who was the heavy favorite.

HBO’s Lovecraft Country earned 18 Emmy nominations this season including Outstanding Drama Series. Based on the Matt Ruff novels of the same name, the series is set in 1950s Jim Crow America where Atticus (Jonathan Majors) searches for his missing father with his childhood friend Leti (Jurnee Smollett) and his Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance). Majora and Smollett are both nominated for Emmys in lead acting categories.

Netflix’s The Crown is nominated for 24 Primetime Emmy Awards including Outstanding Drama Series for the fourth season of the series detailing the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. The season covers the whirlwind romance between Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor) and Lady Diana Spencer (Emma Corrin), as well as Margaret Thatcher’s (Gillian Anderson) tenure as Prime Minister.

Amazon Studios’ All In: The Fight for Democracy examines the history of voter suppression in the U.S. Stacey Abrams, the Georgia politician and lawyer, stars in and produces the documentary directed by Liz Garbus and Lisa Cortés that spotlights those who fought against voter suppression, and those still fighting today.

Writers nominated for this year’s primetime Emmys will talk about the stories behind their shows over two days of Zoom panel discussions presented by the WGA West and the Writers Guild Foundation this month.

The FX series Pose came to a conclusion this year after three seasons and earned nine Emmy nominations, including for Outstanding Drama Series. Created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Steven Canals, Pose takes a look at the underground drag ball culture in the African-American and Latino LGBTQ community during the late 1980s and early ’90s.

HBO’s Mare of Easttown, nominated for 16 Emmys this year including for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, kept the audience on the edge of their seats with a mystery filled with twists and turns. Kate Winslet stars as Detective Mare Sheehan as she investigates the grisly murder of a teenage mother in her small town. Winslet is nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series category for her role in the seven-episode drama.

Nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series along with eight other Emmys, HBO Max’s The Flight Attendant stars Kaley Cuoco as Cassie Bowden, a flight attendant with a drinking problem. Cuoco is nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category for her role.

Nominated for 21 Emmys including for Outstanding Drama Series, a category it won in 2017, Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale stars Elizabeth Moss as June Osborne in a dystopian future where she lives under a fundamentalist theocratic dictatorship. The fourth season starts with June being taken to a safehouse by other handmaids, after being badly injured in the events of the Season 3 finale.

Created by Meredith Scardino, Peacock’s Girls5eva follows a group of women 20 years after their late-’90s girl group, Girls5eva, had its one-hit wonder song. They re-form Girls5eva to seek a second chance at pop stardom.

Nominated for Outstanding Drama Series along along with four other nominations, Amazon Prime’s The Boys, created by Eric Kripke, follows a group of vigilantes led by Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) as they fight the corrupt “supes” led by Homelander (Anthony Starr). Season 2 introduces Stormfront (Aya Cash), a charismatic new superhero with a wicked sadistic side.

Michael Schneider Variety Editor at LargePBS led all networks in nominations for the 42nd annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards, landing 52 overall — thanks to the strength of signature series “Frontline,” “Independent Lens,” “POV,” “Nova,” “PBS News Hour” and “Nature.”The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced this year’s nominees on Tuesday morning, noting that more than 2,200 submissions were entered, from content that premiered in calendar year 2020.

PBS leads the nominations for the 42nd annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards, as it usually does, this year scoring 52 noms over last year’s 48. Vice News Tonight, which topped all programs with 16 noms in 2020, equaled that number this year but is tied with CBS’ 60 Minutes.

Courteney Cox admitted her recent Emmy nomination for "Friends: The Reunion" was not the type of Emmy she was looking for. "Honestly, I am so happy that the reunion has been recognized because I think it's terrific, Cox said during an interview with Entertainment Weekly published on Wednesday.  "[Director] Ben Winston did a great job and all of his crew," the 57-year-old actress added.
