A school has been criticised for refusing to let pupils attend without proof of a negative Covid test.
Children classed as close contacts of someone who has tested positive have been told they need to show their negative lateral flow test when they arrive at Forest Gate Academy.
Parents have told the Manchester Evening News that families who don't agree with the daily testing have been forced to keep their children off from the school, which is in Partington, Trafford.
While it's the case that schools can request that tests be done, it is only advisory and the Department for Education has confirmed that its guidance states 'testing remains voluntary but is strongly encouraged'.

However, whenever a child from the school tests positive, anyone deemed a close contact of that child - usually their entire class - is currently being asked to test daily for seven days.
A message to parents from the school said: "You must ensure LFDs are completed and a negative result is shown each morning before your child attends school."
The mum of a Year 1 pupil told us: "My child is five years old. We have to do the test at home and take it in with us.
"A lot of parents are not happy with it, especially when the tests can be hard to get hold of, but without it the children are not allowed to attend, they are sent back home.
"The children have to show the test to their class teacher on the way in and school dispose of it in a black bin bag."
She added: "It happens every time another parent calls to say their child has had a positive LFT, so most classes had to do it last week and again yesterday we had a message to say they had to test
