Instagram Restricts Kanye West’s Account Following Backlash Alleging Antisemitic Content

As we’ve been reporting, Kanye West is finally facing consequences for the hate he’s been spreading. The Power rapper has come under fire recently for propagating white supremacist and antisemitic ideas — notably wearing a “White Lives Matter” shirt to Paris Fashion Week and threatening to go “Death Con 3 on Jewish People” on Twitter.

Khloé Kardashian subtly addressed her former brother-in-law Kanye West's antisemitism controversy on Sunday. The Stronger rapper, who used to be married to Khloé's sister Kim, has been hitting headlines throughout this month by making controversial and offensive remarks about Jewish people on social media and in a series of interviews. On Sunday, Khloé became the first member of the Kardashian-Jenner family to address Kanye's antisemitic comments on her Instagram Stories.

Kanye West has refused to show remorse for his recent outbursts of antisemitism, now declaring that he made those comments because he knew they’d spur animosity.West has made a string of antisemitic comments over the past week including inflammatory posts aimed at Jews led to West being booted from Instagram and later Twitter. He would later attempt to spout similar comments on Fox News, the Drink Champs podcast, and LeBron James’ talk show The Shop.

Kanye West‘s most recent record label, Universal Music Group, has shared a statement denouncing antisemitism.West has made a slew of antisemitic comments over the past weeks. A post directed at the Jewish community led to West being suspended from Instagram and later Twitter, where he wrote that he “[would be] going death con 3 [sic] On JEWISH PEOPLE”.While not referencing West directly, UMG have now shared a statement in which they promoted an ongoing partnership with the American Jewish Committee.“There is no place for antisemitism in our society,” the statement read.

Ice Cube has taken to Twitter to refute comments made by Kanye West in an interview linking the rapper to West’s antisemitic views.In an appearance on the Drink Champs podcast – in which he made several inflammatory statements, and which has since been taken down from online platforms – West referenced Cube multiple times. At one point, West claimed that Cube had “really influenced” him to “get on this antisemite vibe”.West has made a slew of antisemitic comments over the past weeks. Kanye West recently gave an interview for an episode of The Shop – a talk show hosted by LeBron James and his business partner, Maverick Carter – however in the wake of the rapper’s recent controversies, that interview has been scrapped.In a statement shared with Andscape, Carter explained that West’s episode was shot very recently – the statement itself notes that it was taped “yesterday”, and the article was published on Tuesday (October 11), but it’s not clear exactly when the statement was given – with the rapper’s appearance on the show having been locked in several weeks earlier.“After talking to Kanye directly the day before we taped,” Carter said, “I believed he was capable of a respectful discussion and he was ready to address all his recent comments. Unfortunately, he used The Shop to reiterate more hate speech and extremely dangerous stereotypes.”As a result, West’s episode of The Shop was scrapped entirely, and no content from his interview will be made public. Carter went on to assure fans that while his show “embraces thoughtful discourse and differing opinions”, it and its team “have zero tolerance for hate speech of any kind and will never allow our channels to be used to promote hate”.In closing, he continued: “I take full responsibility for believing Kanye wanted a different conversation and apologize to our guests and crew. Hate speech should never have an audience.”In addition to West, the scrapped episode of The Shop was due to feature Jeezy – with whom West collaborated on the 2008 track ‘Put On’ – and shoe designer Salehe Bembury.

He then took to his Twitter account, where he posted for the first time in two years, calling out Mark Zuckerberg and claiming he was not anti-Semitic.
