The children of Prince William and Kate Middleton have spent a lot of time in Kensington Palace, after their parents relocated there from Anglesey in 2014. But aside from the gorgeous surroundings of the home in general, there’s one room that’s recently come to light that must have been a haven for Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis - their adorable nursery.
While the Royal family have now left the property (they moved into Adelaide Cottage in September 2022 to downsize, give their children more privacy, and reportedly be closer to the Queen at the time), it hasn’t stopped eagle-eyed fans from getting a glimpse of the sweet room, even after they’ve left. Specially decorated for the young princes and princess, William and Kate first transformed the room in 2013 before the birth of their eldest son, George, who is reported to be playing a role in his grandfather’s coronation in May.
They reportedly turned to legendary children’s author, Beatrix Potter for inspiration, and brought some of her much-loved characters to life. At the time, the couple only had one unborn child on their hands, so they decided to choose neutral colours that would be suitable for both baby boys and girls.
To complement the soft tones, they added some life to the room by hanging paintings and references to Peter Rabbit, plus other popular characters, like Mrs Tiggy-Winkle and Jemima Puddle-Duck. While Beatrix Potter was way before the young children’s time, her stories and characters are still world-famous and loved by every generation.
It’s thought the author could have provided inspiration for the older royals, too. It’s possible that the Prince and Princess of Wales may have used the same design company that created the nurseries
