Will Young has opened up in emotional documentary, Will Young: Losing My Twin Rupert, about his brother's death in August 2020 at the age of 41. Rupert took his own life after a long battle with alcohol addiction. An inquest that took place in January 2021 heard that Rupert left hospital two days after being admitted without telling anyone, before he fell from London's Westminster Bridge.
Will, 43, and his family appeared in the Channel 4 documentary to detail the tragic loss and how it impacted the family. In the heartbreaking documentary, Will shared how before Rupert’s death, he had thrown him out of his house. He said: “At the end, he would be drinking 24 hours a day.
You’ve got this monster who’s not moving. "So, the only thing was to throw him out but also to be aware he might end up killing himself. I was OK with everything I’d done to try to help him.” Will opened up about how his twin brother struggled with alcohol from the age of 18 up until his death.
“I did everything I could to not let him die," Will said in the programme. Will rose to fame when he won the 2002 series of Pop Idol and it was during the series that he became aware that his brother was partying a lot. He recalled a moment before he was about to go on stage when his brother's stitches burst after he had cut himself.
