Emmerdale’s Al Chapman is in the middle of an intense feud with Cain Dingle which could reach an end after a horrific car crash took place on Wednesday. Outside of the soap though, the actor who plays Al, Michael Woodman, has had a very exciting acting career. The 47 year old recently spoke to The Mirror about how his car chase scenes in Emmerdale were reminiscent of his Hollywood days.
He said: “Making films is what I love doing, but I am also really enjoying playing Al and this week’s super stunt week has been so much fun to do. “It’s filmed in a cinematic way and I got to do my own driving sequence stunts, which I loved. It’s great getting into a car and putting the foot down.” He’s no stranger to the “cinematic way” having had roles in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, The Bourne Ultimatum and London has Fallen.
More recently Michael has been in Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw and also in the video game for Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier. While the actor joined Emmerdale in 2019, that hasn’t stopped him from appearing in the TV series Liar in 2020, as well as in Marcella and Rellik before. In 2018 he played a drill instructor on Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One and recalls the famous director making a slight blunder with his script.
He told The Mirror: “I had been offered the part of a character by Steven but, when I arrived, it hadn’t been written up, so he gave me bits of A4 paper with lines on to learn every day. “At the end of the shoot, Steven shook my hand and told me, ‘I really want to apologise for putting you on the spot. I kept on throwing stuff at you’.

Carmen. Fabiano is Don José, the humble soldier who spurns everything and everyone else after becoming infatuated with the titular seductress, played by fellow opera superstar Isabel Leonard.“In light of the way the world is right now, Carmen could seem taboo for some people and some sensibilities, as a man basically violently murders a woman at the end of the opera,” he says. “But we still today face huge problems with violence against women in our society, where men stalk women until they’re murdered.
