Inquest hears how Caroline Flack’s loved ones tried desperately to save her life

Caroline Flack’s mother Christine appeared to have posted a number of scathing comments on her late daughter’s Instagram account aimed at Caroline's former boyfriend Lewis Burton. An Instagram account believed to belong to Christine left a series of comments to slam Lewis, 28, and his new relationship with Lottie Tomlinson, 21.The account has no posts or profile images but has the name “Christine Flack” on it.

Caroline Flack’s mother has tragically said that her daughter was an “easy target for cruel people” following the inquest into her death. A coroner ruled today that the former Love Island presenter had taken her own life after being told she would be prosecuted for an alleged assault on her boyfriend, Lewis Burton.

Love Island host was found hanged at her home in Stoke Newington, north-east London, on February 15 2020, weeks before she was due to stand trial. Returning a verdict of suicide, Coroner Mary Hassell told the inquest into her death that she took her own life "because of an exacerbation of fluctuating ill health and distress".“She had had difficulties," Ms Hassell said.

Caroline Flack’s inquest resumed today, Thursday 6 August, six months after the 40 year old star took her own life.The inquest at Poplar Coroner’s Court in London resumed before Senior Coroner Mary Hassell, with Caroline's family attending via video link. It heard that Caroline told officers she “whacked” boyfriend Lewis Burton but didn't mean to cause him harm.

Caroline Flack with assaulting her boyfriend, despite initially deciding just to caution her. The 40-year-old Love Island star killed herself on February 15 2020, two days after prosecutors decided to press ahead with the case against Flack, who was accused of hitting her boyfriend with a phone as he slept in December.
