Rosario Dawson, Joan Smalls and honoree Iman joined some of New York's brightest stars at a gala to help raise support for Black business owners on Saturday night. The Fifteen Percent Pledge Benefit Gala took place at the beautiful New York Public Library. And Just Like That actress Nicola Ari Parker hosted the event for the non-profit organization which was founded in June 2020 with the goal of narrowing the racial wealth gap.
The group's name is based on the premise that Black people make up 15 percent of the population, so they're asking businesses to donate 15 percent of their shelf space to Black owned brands. So far, 28 companies, including Sephora, Banana Republic and Next Model Management, have come aboard as partners of the organization, which has generated almost $10 billion in revenue for Black business owners. Supermodel Iman was honored as an Industry Pioneer for helping break through the glass ceiling for women of color.
In 1994 the Somali beauty founded her own line of cosmetics focusing on difficult to find shades for women. The affordable products flew off the shelves. She has since created her own signature fragrance, Love Memoir as well as Global Chic, making one-size-fits-all caftans, inspired by her childhood in Egypt and her early days as a Halston model.
The fashion icon looked younger than her 66-years is a stunning animal print inspired gown, complete with matching gloves. Her long dark bob was styled straight and she wore minimal jewelry. The evening's other honoree, Stacy Abrams was unable to attend, but was honored via remote.
