Brian ‘Brizz’ Gillis, Co-Founder of ’90s Boy Band LFO, Dies at 47

Thania Garcia Brian “Brizz” Gillis, one of the founders of the ’90s boy band LFO, died Wednesday, sources close to the singer confirmed to Variety. He was 47. LFO member Brad Fischetti was the first official source to comment on the death in an Instagram tribute post. “Every story is made up of chapters. Some develop naturally. Some you have to cut up in your mind. The first two chapters of the LFO story lost a main character yesterday. Brian ‘Brizz’ Gillis passed away. I don’t have details and it wouldn’t be my place to share them if I did. I am really struggling to process this tragic loss. I’ve said it before and I will continue to say it; the LFO Story is a tragedy. If you know what I’ve been doing, you know I’m trying to bring light into the darkness. Trying find redemption in pain and suffering. Trying to honor the legacy.”

‘The View’ Host Ana Navarro Says Trump Is Right to Claim Credit for DeSantis’ Governorship: ‘He’s Not Wrong’ (Video)

Ana Navarro may be no fan of Donald Trump, but she still thinks the twice-impeached former president is right about one thing: he gets to take credit for Ron DeSantis’ governorship.Navarro’s thoughts came as the hosts of “The View” discussed Trump’s campaign rally in Waco, Texas, on Monday morning. Though the women largely scoffed at what Trump had to say — moderator Whoopi Goldberg even went so far as to call him the “most violent snowflake I’ve ever seen” — Navarro honed in on one smaller bit.“I did rallies for Ron that were massive rallies. And they were very successful,” Trump said.

The Long Road to ‘Spinning Gold’: How Neil Bogart’s Sons Created the Biopic About the Legendary Casablanca Records Founder

Jem Aswad Senior Music Editor To call “Spinning Gold” a labor of love is an understatement completely uncharacteristic of its subject: the late Neil Bogart, the larger-than-life founder of Casablanca Records, the famously freewheeling 1970s powerhouse that brought the world Kiss, Donna Summer, Parliament-Funkadelic and the Village People in less than five years. Some 25 years in the making, the biopic was written, produced and directed by Bogart’s eldest son Tim (who’s worked in those roles on many TV series, from “Majors & Minors” to “The Jungle Book”) with music supervision from his youngest son, Evan (a songwriter and music publisher who co-wrote Beyonce’s “Halo,” among many other hits), and other family members as producers. Out March 31, it features Tony and Grammy-nominated Broadway star Jeremy Jordan (“Newsies,” “Rock of Ages,” “Waitress”) as Bogart, Michelle Monaghan as his first wife, Lyndsy Fonseca as his second, rapper Wiz Khalifa as P-Funk’s George Clinton, singers Ledisi as Gladys Knight and Tayla Parx as Summer, among many others.

Evan Bogart Talks Hit Songwriting and ‘Spinning Gold,’ the Biopic About His Dad, Casablanca Records Founder Neil Bogart

Jem Aswad Senior Music Editor The entertainment business is filled with polymaths, but this week’s “Strictly Business” podcast guest, Evan Bogart, is a rarity even by its standards: He’s a songwriter of hits for Beyonce, Rihanna, Lizzo and others; owner of the large publishing company Seeker Music; chair of the Recording Academy’s new songwriters and composers wing; and not least, son of the late, legendary Neil Bogart, founder of the 1970s powerhouse Casablanca Records, which brought the world Kiss, Donna Summer, Parliament-Funkadelic and the Village People. Neil is the subject of “Spinning Gold,” a biopic directed and written by Evan’s older brother Tim, for which Evan is executive music producer, and which comes out March 31.

Fallon Says Trump’s Only 2024 Rivals Besides DeSantis Are ‘the Justice Department and High Cholesterol’ (Video)

Trump admitted that Florida governor Ron DeSantis is “probably” his biggest challenger for the GOP presidential nomination.Of course, he immediately added that “we’re not going to have much of a challenge.” But Fallon thinks there was one other addendum to that.“Trump said his only other rivals are the Justice Department and high cholesterol,” he said. Indeed, the former president remains under several investigations, though not all of them are specifically from the Justice Department.

‘Frybread Face and Me’ Filmmaker Billy Luther on Native Representation in Hollywood and His First SXSW Film Premiere

Jazz Tangcay Artisans Editor Filmmaker Billy Luther makes his narrative feature debut at SXSW on Saturday with “Frybead Face and Me,” executive produced by Taika Waititi. Inspired by his childhood, the film follows a young boy, Benny (Keir Tallman), who has to spend the summer with his grandma on the reservation. Luther, whose past work includes the documentary “Miss Navajo” and AMC’s “Dark Winds,” feels Benny’s story of learning about rez life and bonding with his cousin Frybread (Charley Hogan) has universal appeal in that it’s ultimately about being somewhere new and feeling alone. “You don’t have to be Native to connect to the story because everyone remembers being dropped off somewhere, and the story brings that familiarity,” Luther says.
