Arab Distributor MAD Solutions Snaps Up Venice Competition Title ‘The Ties’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Nick Vivarelli International Correspondent Cairo-based film marketing and distribution outfit MAD Solutions has acquired rights for Arab territories to Venice competition entry “Les Miens” (“Our Ties”), directed by French actor and filmmaker of Moroccan descent Roschdy Zem. “Our Ties” is co-written by Zem with actor/director Maïwenn (“Polisse,” “Mon Roi”), who co-stars. Zem is a French cinema fixture, having starred in pics including “Other People’s Children” and directed several films including 2019’s “Persona Non Grata.” “Ties” is a drama about family dynamics centered around a man played by Sami Bouajila whose personality changes radically after he suffers a head injury. Zem plays his TV presenter brother.

The section has a track record of making significant discoveries among new Asian films and directors.The selected titles are eligible for multiple awards, including the New Currents Award, the FIPRESCI Award, the NETPAC Award, and the KB New Currents Audience Award. Manic Street Preachers have shared a previously unheard song called ‘Studies In Paralysis’ with an official video by Kieran Evans – check that out below.The song appears on the band’s forthcoming expanded and remastered version of 2001 album ‘Know Your Enemy’, which will be released on September 9 and can be pre-ordered here.The album will be divided into two albums across two disks, ‘Solidarity’ and ‘Door To The River’. TWICE have unveiled snippets of tracks from upcoming mini-album ‘Between 1&2’ in a special “Sneak Peek” video.On August 23, the nine-member girl group shared sneak peeks of all seven songs from their 11th mini-album that’s due out on Friday (August 26) at 1pm KST/midnight EST.
