Wanderers have made five signings so far this January and sealed their latest acquisition today with the addition of striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson from Millwall on a free transfer.
It adds to the permanent signings of Dion Charles and Aaron Morley, as well as the loan signings of Marlon Fossey and James Trafford.
Dempsey is out of contract at Gillingham this summer and this window is the last opportunity the Kent club would be able to get a transfer fee for the midfielder or he would walk away for free later this year, should he not sign a new deal.

Bolton boss Evatt was asked about the state of play with Dempsey and said the bid lodged remains in for a player Wanderers would like to sign, but admits the midfielder is still a Gillingham player as Wanderers await a response.
Evatt said: “The offer is still in. I think we’re still waiting to hear back but we very much want Kyle to be part of this and part of this project.
"But for now, he’s a Gillingham player and we have to respect that and hopefully we’ll get an answer off them soon.”
