Ian Evatt does not expect it to be too long before Eoin Toal will be in action for Bolton Wanderers but vowed the defender will not be thrown straight into the club's first team.
The 23-year-old defender became Bolton's fourth signing of the summer last month when he joined from Derry City on a three-year-deal. He is yet to make his Wanderers debut.
The former Northern Ireland under-21 international has been busy at the club's Lostock training base getting up to speed at his new club, as well as recovering from a slight injury. Now, Evatt has confirmed that it will be too long before the defender is in action.

But the defender is unlikely to be thrown straight into the starting first team straight away. Instead, work is taking place to build up his tolerance to the physical demands of playing for Bolton and his understanding of it, with work on the technical detail of turning out for Wanderers to follow.
Evatt told the Manchester Evening News: “I don’t think he’ll be too long to be honest. But it’ll be a gradual process. He’s not going to be thrown in to the first team straight away in a sink or swim scenario.
“We’ve signed Eoin for the long term and we need to let him build up his tolerance to our training level and also his understanding of how we play, what’s required from our centre backs in and out of possession because it’s a tough place to play for us.
“You have to defend and be happy defending one v one in large spaces and large areas and also handle the ball in tight areas. We think he can do it, that’s why we’ve signed him, but he’s going to take time to get used to what we do.
