Ian Evatt has vowed Declan John understands the rotation at left wing-back this season at Bolton Wanderers as the pressure is shared around possibly the most physically difficult position on the pitch.
John has been a near first choice selection on the far left hand side of defence during his time at Wanderers, having initially joined the club on loan from Swansea City in January 2021. He has played at both left-back and left wing-back during his time at the club.
The Welshman has been rotated this season so far following the acquisition of Jack Iredale this summer from Cambridge United. Iredale has provided a more defensive and physical option for Evatt at left wing-back.

John has not started a League One game since the victory over Morecambe in mid-August. He has recently had slight injuries but has also Iredale has been preferred as Evatt kept faith with a winning side of late.
Evatt vowed that John understands the situation as he explained the different options Iredale provides Wanderers. It is a position which Evatt envisages sharing between John, Iredale and Liverpool loanee Owen Beck to maintain freshness in potentially the most challenging position to play in this team.
He said: “Declan’s a fantastic young man and he understands it. Obviously everybody wants to play every game and if you’re not and don’t want to play every game, then you’re in the wrong business and industry. We get that, but we have to share the pressure and share the workload out and I think the reason we bought Jack in was to give us a different type of left wing-back.
