I winced as I read another nasty message on my Instagram that had been sent from a horrible troll. “You’re faking it, you don’t have cancer.” I swallowed back the tears stinging my eyes, determined not to let these awful people get the better of me. It was the second message I’d received in a week from a stranger hiding behind their keyboard.
“You look too good to be dying,” other trolls would write.The comments were regular, a few every week, so I’m used to it now. In the beginning, I’ll admit they hurt. But now I believe it’s those people who have the problem.They must be incredibly unhappy.
Yes, I make an effort to look my best, wearing wigs and false eyelashes – as my hair fell out after chemo – and make-up, and people tell me I’m full of energy. But the reality is that in May 2021, doctors told me I had three to 15 months to live. It’s a prognosis I’m not willing to accept.
