Princess Diana, has opened up about his battle with cancer and how he believes the late Royal, and Queen Elizabeth II, are watching over him. During an appearance on ITV's Lorraine in the run-up to the latest series of I'm A Celebrity, Paul spoke about his guardian angels and his cancer diagnosis. It was revealed earlier this year that health tests carried out before his participation in the show led to his diagnosis.
And whilst in the jungle, Paul learned of the death of the Queen, but decided to stay and finish the show. He told Lorraine Kelly: "I was sat in the jungle with cancer, the Queen has died and I'm thinking, how do I get through this?Read more: Carol Vorderman sizzles as she shows off busty I'm A Celeb bikinis"You gather strength from somewhere and I had two angels sat on my shoulder, the Princess and the Queen. "I'm going to live my life and live it large and be grateful for every day," he said.
Paul credits the late monarch as being like a surrogate mother to him. He said: "I went to Buckingham Palace when I was 18 years old, she [Queen Elizabeth] became my surrogate mother. "I know it's hard for people to understand but living in close proximity to someone for 11 years you do begin to love them and I loved the Queen, she was a wonderful lady.
""For me, she influenced my life, she shaped me along with Diana, they made me the man I am today. I have great respect and admiration for my late Queen. " he continued.
Upon learning of the Queen's death, producers gave Paul the opportunity to leave the I'm a Celeb camp and return home. He told Lorraine: "I said, 'Listen, I'm better here. This is my sanctuary right now.
