‘Hustle’ Review: In His First Major Role Since ‘Uncut Gems,’ Adam Sandler Scores in a Rousing Basketball Drama

Sandler plays a Philadelphia 76ers scout named Stanley Sugarman who believes he’s found the next NBA star in Bo Cruz, a temperamental Spanish player who is more than a little rough around the edges. For the role of Cruz, director Jeremiah Zagar needed to find a great actor who could also play basketball.

Fans of actor Adam Sandler say the star should never return to comedy, following his recent Netflix movie Hustle.The 55 year old star appears in the new film in a more serious role than we're used to, after finding fame in comedies including Billy Madison and Big Daddy. But Hustle sees the actor in a new light, with the synopsis for Hustle reading: "After discovering a once-in-a-lifetime player with a rocky past abroad, a down on his luck basketball scout (Adam Sandler) takes it upon himself to bring the phenom to the States without his team’s approval. Against the odds, they have one final shot to prove they have what it takes to make it in the NBA." Adam worked as an executive producer for the new film, alongside NBA legend LeBron James who was a producer.

Adam Sandler brought his mom, Judy Sandler, to a special screening in Philadelphia for his new movie "Hustle" on Tuesday.  The screening of the Netflix film was held at the Philadelphia Film Center which is where the movie takes place. For the Los Angeles premiere, Sandler, 55, was accompanied by his wife Jackie Sandler at the Regency Village Theatre in early June. Adam Sandler is opening up about a bizzare incident that left him with an eye wound, after what he described as a “pathetic” accident in bed.The Hollywood star appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and detailed the accident during the interview, revealing that it took place in a hotel bed and he “was bleeding terribly.”“This is something I have to discuss, right?” He said pointing to the injury on his face, “I was in bed, in the middle of the night and, you know how they tuck in your sheets at the bottom, some people? Somebody tucked in the sheets too much and I had my phone in the middle of the bed.”He continued, “I kicked my feet up to untuck it, the phone went flying, hit me in the head,” explaining that he “refused to acknowledge it,“ because he was too tired.“I felt blood. Adam Sandler is having a hard time believing just how long ago two of his most beloved comedies hit theaters, and cemented his career as a bona fide box office star.Sandler recently sat down with ET's Kevin Frazier, where he was joined by his co-star Queen Latifah, while promoting the new Netflix basketball dramedy, and he reeled at the news that next year would mark the 25th anniversary for the release of both and «I didn't know that, that hurts. Fans of the Sandman know it’s often feast or famine when the comedic superstar steps away from his traditional juvenile humor. The highs are high, and the lows are low.
