Hurricane Ian warning for Florida as 'major' storm with winds of 140mph to batter US

While members of the media have taken to mocking Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ "go-go" boots and the side-eyes he and President Biden supposedly gave each other at a recent press conference on Hurricane Ian, the Republican governor said he’s been mobilizing a historic effort to restore power and stability to the areas most impacted by the Category 4 hurricane that claimed at least 137 lives. Days before Hurricane Ian made landfall, DeSantis declared a state of emergency for the state while bringing in more than 42,000 linemen and over 1.6 million gallons of fuel to prepare for recovery efforts, DeSantis’ office told Fox News Digital.

Florida police arrested six looters in Fort Meyers on Saturday for allegedly stealing high-end sneakers and other items from an outlet mall. According to Lee County's Sheriff's Office, Carlos Reyes Carmenates, 33, Mirna Abstengo Quesada, 33, Roberto Didier Enamorado Reyes, 30, Daymase Varona Reyes, 35, Alain Banzo Dieguez, 19, and a Hispanic teenager who is 14 years old traveled from Broadway Avenue to the outlets.  Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno referenced the incident Saturday during a briefing on Hurricane Ian recovery efforts alongside Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

During an interview on "Fox & Friends," Friday, Polk County, Florida Sheriff Grady Judd weighed in on the influx of looters who are taking advantage of Hurricane Ian's devastation, urging armed Florida homeowners to take action. At least 132 people have died due to Hurricane Ian, according to local officials, as the death toll continues to climb more than a week after the powerful storm tore across Cuba and the eastern United States. Cori Bush, D-Mo., for still supporting the "defund police" movement.  Dorn pointed out the hypocrisy of Bush's support of anti-police rhetoric on "Fox & Friends First" Thursday. "I find it funny that she says ‘defund the police.’ But yet, she spends $400,000-$700,000 on security alone just for herself using police officers to do it.

Several media outlets criticized Melania Trump’s fashion choice in 2017 when she left to go visit victims of a hurricane, however the same media outlets neglected to mention First Lady Jill Biden’s similar fashion choice during her post-Hurricane Ian Florida visit on Wednesday.  Both President Biden and his wife were photographed leaving for Florida to meet with Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., about ongoing recovery efforts following the Category 4 hurricane hitting the state.

Ron DeSantis after being passed by Florida’s Republican-controlled Legislature, prohibits instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade and requires that such instructions be “age-appropriate” or “developmentally appropriate” in older grades. But opponents of the law claim the law is rife with opportunities for teachers and administrators to discriminate against LGBTQ students and children of same-sex parents in order to avoid offending conservative parents, who are empowered to sue for alleged violations of the law.In the lawsuit, first filed in March and amended in May, the plaintiffs claimed that the law violates their First Amendment and due process rights.

Late today Walt Disney World asked all resort hotel guests who remain at the properties to shelter in place for the duration of Hurricane Ian, which is expected to begin impacting the area in earnest Wednesday evening. Earlier in the day, it was announced that the resort’s parks would be closed Wednesday through Friday.
