Nathan Ake will remain a Manchester City player this season after talks with Chelsea broke down, while there is a growing expectation that Oleksandr Zinchenko will complete a move to Arsenal.
The 27-year-old Dutch defender had been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea but City were adamant from the outset that they would not accept a bid beneath £50m for the player. Despite recent reports that the Thomas Tuchel's side were confident of getting the deal done, they have now walked away from talks as they failed to meet City's valuation.
Although Ake was open to making the move, he has no problems staying at a City side where he grew in stature at the club, putting in a number of excellent performances in both central defence and at left-back. A large part of this was due to his recent injury-free season, a problem that hampered his development during his first year in Manchester.
This now means that the club can focus on other transfer business this window, with their main area of improvement being at left-back - an even more pressing concern now that Oleksandr Zinchenko is expected to complete his move to Arsenal.
The 25-year-old versatile left-back is currently City's third longest-serving player at the club, but the Ukrainian looks set to reunite with former coach Mikel Arteta as his move to North London draws closer. City would be due to make a sizeable profit for the player considering they only paid £1.4m for him back in 2016, and the club have wasted no time in eyeing up a potential replacement in the form of Brighton's Marc Cucurella.
City fans have reacted on Twitter, showing both their delight at Ake staying at the club, but also their frustration at Zinchenko's potential departure:
