Note: The following article contains spoilers for “House of the Dragon” Episode 5.When a “House of the Dragon” audition opportunity came along for actor Fabien Frankel, he had no idea that the character he was up for – Ser Criston Cole – would become so pivotal to the drama at King’s Landing. “I didn’t know anything about it,” Frankel said across a Zoom from the U.K. after being asked by TheWrap if he knew he was up for “Game of Thrones” prequel “House of the Dragon” when the opportunity came around.
“I just knew the character I was auditioning for was called Ser Clint. And so I was like, ‘Oh, here we go.’ And the scenes — I actually have yet to ask Ryan [Condal] or Miguel [Sapochnik, both Season 1 co-showrunners and executive producers] where that scene came from, whether it was just written by them for the purpose of auditioning, or whether it’s from something else.
But yeah, I couldn’t find any indication of [it] existing in any world prior to this audition.”When Frankel, a graduate of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (“Stranger Things'” Joseph Quinn was an upper classmate), landed the part of Ser Criston, he found similar mystery. He was playing a character who was – at least in the realm of the television franchise – as yet unknown.
Ser Criston Cole, the common-born and son of Lord Dondarrion’s steward, as viewers learned in the first episode, had no known ties to the mothership’s major families. And that presented a sort of freedom in Frankel’s approach to the character.“There is no one really like him in any of the original show or in the books – you know, this kind of looming figure that appears out of nowhere and all of a sudden is right at the heart of this whole thing,” the actor said.

Todd Spangler NY Digital Editor Bethenny Frankel says she’s had enough of scammers on TikTok using her voice, image or content to sell counterfeit products. The entrepreneur and star of “The Real Housewives of New York” filed a federal lawsuit against ByteDance’s TikTok, the hugely popular short-form video app, alleging that TikTok has ignored her requests to remove unauthorized content that misappropriates her likeness. The lawsuit, which seeks class-action status, demands unspecified monetary damages and a permanent injunction barring TikTok from misusing the “personas, voices, content and/or likenesses” of Frankel and other potential members of the class. “Despite demands on TikTok to remove and police this corrupt conduct, TikTok has ignored such demands, and even taken countervailing positions,” Frankel’s lawsuit says. “Aside from not being compensated, the reputation and brand of Ms. Frankel and Class Members are being damaged and tarnished through unauthorized associations with counterfeit goods and other products that they do not support.”
American chess player Hans Niemann broke his silence Wednesday after he was accused in an investigation of cheating 100 times more than he previously admitted in online matches. Video from the event showed the 19-year-old being scanned around his backside and even on the snacks he brought for the day. Niemann had been accused of using devices to help him cheat in matches, including anal beads.
Jennifer Salke entered the Second Age in London. The head of Amazon Studios spent the 72 hours leading up to the launch of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” in a whirlwind, traveling from the series’ global premiere event in London’s Leicester Square to her Manhattan apartment to watch the early returns arrive via reports from Amazon’s formidable consumer research department. The “Rings” team was exhausted, having had no chance to recover from the grueling worldwide promotional campaign for the Amazon Prime Video series that is an enormous bet for the tech giant, being the most expensive television series ever produced. For most of launch day, Sept. 1, Salke and key members of her executive team, many members of the large ensemble cast and executive producers J.D. Payne, Patrick McKay and Lindsey Weber gathered together for hours in virtual “war rooms,” bone tired but energized, to wait for the world’s reaction.

When people talk about the best films in Kevin Smith’s filmography, it doesn’t typically take long before “Dogma” is brought up. “Dogma” is, by far, his most ambitious film, telling the story of two fallen angels attempting to find a loophole to earn their way back into Heaven.

Zack Sharf “Game of Thrones” was infamous for its gratuitous sex scenes, which is perhaps one reason “House of the Dragon” actor Fabien Frankel spent so much time working on just one intimate scene for the “Thrones” prequel series. Frankel told Entertainment Weekly that he spent seven months working on his character’s Episode 4 sex scene with Milly Alcock’s Rhaenyra Targaryen. “It was something we talked about over seven months. It was one of the first things I was very keen to talk about,” Frankel said. “The big thing for me was about it not feeling like another gratuitous, sweat-glistening-off-their-back sex scene, ’cause it’s just not like that.”
