Viewers of both EastEnders and House of the Dragon were shocked to see a familiar face in the most recent episode of the Game of Thrones spin-off. The episode began with Rhaenys Targaryen explaining that “it’s been six years” since the events of the previous instalment, so it’s unsurprising that new characters were introduced.
One new addition to the already packed cast is Maester Gerardys, played by actor Phil Daniels, who is best-known for playing Kevin Wicks in the popular BBC soap EastEnders. He’s also known for his lead role in the film Quadrophenia, and has had appearances in The Class of Miss MacMichael, Breaking Glass, New Tricks and Rock & Chips.
Those watching House of the Dragon were shocked to see the actor appear in the show, with many taking to social media in surprise. One Twitter user wrote: “Did anyone else notice that the maester at R and D’s wedding was Phil Daniels who played Kevin Wicks in Eastenders? No? Just me? Well, it sure did bring a smile to my face." “Seeing Phil Daniels in #HOTD really took me out of it, even more than Dr.
Who in a wig!” wrote another, referencing former Doctor Who star Matt Smith’s role in the Game of Thrones spin-off. A third fan added: “Phil Daniels being in House of the Dragon is the strangest crossover of things I love I could have ever imagined.” Years before his appearance in Westeros, Phil arrived in the iconic Albert Square in February 2006, playing Kevin Wicks, the nephew of Pat Butcher.

However, the news of the king’s death is not yet widely known, allowing the queen and her father, the Hand of the King Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifan), to call their own small council (err “Green Council”) to determine the line of succession.
