EXCLUSIVE: Yul Vazquez is set as a lead opposite Danny Pino & Michael Chiklis in Hotel Cocaine, MGM+’s upcoming crime thriller from creator Chris Brancato.
Hotel Cocaine is the story of Roman Compte (Pino), a Cuban expatriate who fought against Fidel Castro in the Bay of Pigs invasion and re-made his life in Miami. He is general manager of the Mutiny Hotel, the glamorous epicenter of the Miami cocaine scene of late ‘70s and early ‘80s. The Mutiny Hotel was Casablanca on cocaine, a glitzy nightclub, restaurant and hotel frequented by Florida businessmen and politicians, international narcos, CIA and FBI agents, models, sports stars and musicians.
Vazquez will play Nestor Cabal, Roman Compte’s (Pino) brother and one of the biggest suppliers of cocaine to a coke-hungry Miami population. He’s dangerous, funny, wily, and seeking reunion with his long-lost brother.
Chiklis plays Agent Zulio who will stop at nothing to shut down the drug trade, even if it means using innocent civilians to accomplish his ends.
Brancato serves as executive producer and showrunner. Guillermo Navarro will direct the pilot episode and executive produce the series, with Michael Panes and Alfredo Barrios Jr. also serving as executive producers. The eight-episode series from MGM+ Studios, in partnership with MGM Television, will begin production in May in the Dominican Republic, and is slated to premiere in early 2024.
Vazquez will next be seen in the HBO Max limited series White House Plumbers, opposite Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux. He was most recently seen on season 3 of the MGM+ series Godfather of Harlem opposite Forest Whitaker and in the Emmy-nominated Apple TV+ series, Severance, directed by Ben Stiller. Sex Pistols‘ Glen Matlock has said he was “very disappointed” with the Pistol television series.Pistol premiered on Hulu and Disney+ on May 31 last year. It starred Anson Boon as Johnny Rotten, Louis Partridge as Sid Vicious, Jacob Slater as Paul Cook and Christian Lees as Glen Matlock among a cast line-up that also includes Maisie Williams. Michael Leon, long time music industry executive and husband of 42 West founder and preeminent publicist Leslee Dart, passed away on April 2nd. He was 76 years old. After joining famed independent label A&M Records in 1976, he rose to Senior Vice President and Head of East Coast Operations. Known for his gregarious management style and his ear for emerging talent, he was instrumental in the development of the careers of Suzanne Vega, Joan Armitrading, The Police, Squeeze, and Supertramp, among many others.Leon also served as a Vice President of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, the Head of International for EMI Records Group, and President of independent label Hybrid Records.After marrying Dart in 1996, he was often seen by her side at gala events around the world, embracing the role of being, as he often called himself, “Mr. Dart” (he even changed his email name to “mistadart”).Dart founded 42 West in 2004 after rising to prominence as President at PMK. Her clients included Tom Hanks, Martin Scorsesee, Francis Ford Coppola, Nicole Kidman, Darren Aronofsky, and Meryl Streep. She oversaw the sale of 42 West, a company she built from two initial employees into one of the biggest PR businesses in Hollywood, to Dolphin Entertainment in 2017, and she retired from the business in 2021.In addition to Dart, Leon is survived by his two sons, noted filmmaker Adam Leon (Gimme The Loot, Tramps) and Matthew Leon, currently an employee in the CAA music department.

William Earl Music industry veteran Michael Leon died on April 2 in Beverly Hills. He was 76. A cause of death was not revealed. A longtime label executive, who was married to powerhouse publicist Leslee Dart, Leon’s career began at Bell Records, home to albums in the 1960s and 1970s by Al Green, the 5th Dimension and Shirley Jones, whose repertoire was later absorbed by Arista. He went on to join revered independent label A&M Records in 1976, where he would ascend to senior VP and head of East Coast operations. While at A&M, Leon took on the role of VP of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation and was tasked with spearheading the museum’s initial exhibition. Among his credits while at the Rock Hall: championing architect I.M. Pei for the museum contract as well as the city of Cleveland.

Fremantle Acquires Majority Stake In Belguim’s A Team ProductionsFremantle has acquired a majority stake in A Team Productions (ATP). Based in Belgium, A Team Productions was founded in 2009 and is led by Kobe van Steenberghe and Hendrik Verthé. The company is behind the 2011 short film Land of the Heroes, which won the International Jury Prize at Berlin in 2011. A Team also produced the short Baghdad Messi, which was shortlisted for an Academy Award in 2014. Other credits from the outfit include Patser (Gangsta) by filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.
