A house where an entire family was brutally murdered more than 20 years ago is on the market. The three-bed semi-detached house in Clydach, Swansea Valley, has just come on to the market with an asking price of over £175,000.
The property at Number 9, Kelvin Road was home to 34-year-old Mandy Power, her 80-year-old mum Doris and her two young daughters Katie, 10 and Emily, eight. All four were killed in the house on June 27, 1999, and the property was then set on fire, Wales Online reports .
However, what was believed to be an attempt to destroy evidence was unsuccessful due to the rapid response of firefighters, who were able to extinguish the blaze. The horror crime sent shockwaves throughout the UK and prompted one of the biggest murder investigations by the Welsh police force .
Local man David Morris was later convicted on two occasions; firstly at Swansea Crown Court in 2002, a verdict which was overturned on appeal, and then again following a retrial at Newport Crown Court in 2006.
At the time of the murders, Morris claimed he had shared a sexual relationship with Ms Power and has continued to maintain his innocence over the last two decades. In 2018, a bid to take his case to the Court of Appeal was rejected by the Criminal Cases Review Commission.
But in 2021, South Wales Police announced an investigative assessment of fresh claims raised by Morris's lawyers. It followed the release of BBC documentary in October 2020, which identified two potential new witnesses to events on the night the family were murdered, and also raised questions over potential forensic evidence.
The documentary featured the alleged sightings of two men near the home on the night of the killings.
