Juliet, played by Niamh Blackshaw, was diagnosed with stage three Hodgkin Lymphoma - an uncommon form of cancer - earlier this year. Wednesday night's episode saw the final moments of Juliet's life as she shared what would have been her vows on her wedding day with girlfriend Peri.
The devastating scenes came just over a week after fans of EastEnders were left heartbroken following the death of cancer-stricken Lola Pearce. Lola, played by Danielle Harold, was diagnosed with an incurable brain cancer last year. After Juliet’s final scenes in Hollyoaks on Wednesday, the Channel 4 soap’s official Instagram account posted a tribute to the character.
It read: "We've said a heartbreaking goodbye to our Juliet Nightingale. "We want to say a huge thank you to @niamhblackshaw who has brought Juliet to our screens! You've been incredible to watch and we will miss you so much! And good luck for the future!" In her final moments, Juliet and Peri lay together in bed. Juliet then looked up to the ceiling and admitted she was no longer scared.
Fans at home also took to social media after the episode to share their heartbreak. One wrote: "I cried my eyes out… hollyoaks will never be the same , rip Juliet & good luck in ur new venture @niamhblackshaw."
