Rescue divers in Arizona recovered the body of a California man who went missing Saturday after he jumped into Lake Havasu and never resurfaced, authorities said Sunday. Responding deputies immediately deployed divers into the water but the searchers were unable to locate the victim, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office said. Officials described conditions as difficult during the response, with winds gusting upwards of 40 mph and waves as tall as three feet.

A fifth suspect was arrested Friday morning in California in connection with a body found buried in the Arizona desert, authorities said. Garrett Cole, 31, of Bakersfield, was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant for murder, kidnapping and robbery, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office in Arizona said. Detectives in Bakersfield contacted the sheriff's office about an investigation into a homicide that happened in their jurisdiction last month and said they believed some suspects traveled to Fort Mohave, Ariz., after the murder.

Abortions in both Arizona and Ohio are legal once again after two separate rulings in court on Friday. At the Arizona Court of Appeals, a three-judge panel sided with Planned Parenthood on Friday, which argued that Pima County Court Superior Court Judge Kellie Johnson shouldn't have lifted an injunction that prevented a pre-statehood law that bans abortions in all circumstances, except if the mother's life is in danger.

The lawyer for an Arizona woman who pled guilty to ballot abuse is asking a judge for leniency in sentencing her.  Guillermina Fuentes, 66, pled guilty to one count of ballot abuse on June 2 and admitted to collecting four early voting ballots during the 2020 election and then giving them to Alma Juarez, who dropped them off at a polling place. Juarez also pled guilty to ballot abuse, but entered an agreement with prosecutors in exchange for probation. Prosecutors in the case are asking Yuma County Superior Court Judge Roger Nelson to hand Fuentes a sentence of one year, but her lawyers argue that any time in prison would be a miscarriage of justice.

Ahead of former President Trump’s rallies this weekend in the key general election battlegrounds of Arizona and Nevada, a recently formed Trump super PAC is launching ads in crucial midterm races in both states. The spots by Make America Great Again Inc., which start running on TV Saturday, were shared first with Fox News Friday.  The new ads follow by a day the first commercials released by the super PAC targeting hotly contested Senate races in Ohio and Pennsylvania, where GOP-held open seats are being heavily targeted by the Democrats in November's midterm elections.  Fox News' "Hannity" and the Wall Street Journal first reported about the ads.  The commercial in Arizona takes aim at Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly and Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, the Democrats’ gubernatorial nominee.

PHOENIX, AZ – A photographer who was contracted to take school pictures at an Arizona elementary school has been accused of sex crimes against minors, officials say. The contractor, who has not been identified or charged, was on the campus of Freedom Elementary School in Buckeye, according to the school district's superintendent. Officials were made aware of the accusations after an individual reached out to Buckeye Police Department on September 2 – the same day that picture day was held at the Phoenix-area elementary school.

U.S. Border Patrol Agents in Arizona discovered nine illegal immigrants hidden inside an enclosed space within a cattle trailer near the Mexico border over the weekend.  The discovery came during a traffic stop near Nogales, Arizona around 1 a.m., U.S.

Kendrick Sampson has launched BLD PWR Productions, a new production company that extends the impact of his advocacy initiative of the same name. The actor — best known for “Insecure,” “Miss Juneteenth,” “How to Get Away with Murder” and “The Vampire Diaries” — is the co-founder of BLD PWR, which helped to mobilize thousands of protesters during the #BlackLivesMatter movement of summer 2020 and organized industry leaders to sign a letter calling for Hollywood to divest from the police. “The days of begging for a seat are over. This is what building our own table looks like,” Sampson said in a press release announcing the launch. “We will continue to challenge those in power, but we recognize that it’s not Hollywood’s job to reimagine our future… we have always been experts at our own narratives and we are taking that power back.”

Burke launches the company after five years as senior executive at the BFI Film Fund and 13 years at Warp Films where she amassed more than 40 TV and film credits including “Submarine,” “Saint Maud,” “Phantom of the Open,” “Brian and Charles,” “God’s Own Country,” “Colette” and “Ammonite.” She has won a BAFTA Scotland best feature award for “For Those in Peril” and a BAFTA Cymru in the same category for “Submarine.”
