Heavy flooding has left streets in Dumfries submerged in water after a danger to life warning was issued by the Met Office. Members of the public are being urged to avoid the Whitesands area due to heavy flooding as stormy conditions battered the country on Friday.
Nithsdale Police urged people to steer clear of the area due to hidden hazards as they shared a warning on social media. Posting a video on Twitter, the force said the flood water had entered Friars Vennel and is across the road at Whitesands/Shakespeare Street junction.
In the 16-second clip shared online, the road is submerged with deep rain water. The post said: "This is the current scene on #Whitesands in #Dumfries. The flood water has entered Friars Vennel & is across the road at Whitesands/Shakespeare Street junction. Please do not enter flood water as there can be hidden hazards."
Across other parts of Scotland, cars were left submerged in water following a heavy downpour. Residents on Kilmacolm Road in Greenock, Inverclyde, woke up to their vehicles sinking into flood water thought to be around one meter deep.
Images from the scene show four cars affected by the adverse conditions as the street is pictured swamped by the downpour.
It comes as a danger to life weather warning was issued for parts of Scotland today. A Met Office amber alert for heavy rain was in place for parts of Dumfries and Galloway as well as the Scottish Borders.
