The heart-stopping moment a car went up in flames following a crash in Inverclyde has been captured on camera.
The blaze erupted at around 4pm on Friday, December 16, at Langbank Roundabout in the town of Port Glasgow, prompting an emergency response from crews including Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
Images and footage taken at the scene, which were shared online by a motorist who witnessed the incident from the front of queueing traffic, show a huge fireball explode from a burning Range Rover, along with plumes of thick, black smoke which billow into the night sky.
Fierce, orange flames spit from the wreckage while debris is tossed into the air by the the force of the inferno, and the intense heating radiating from it. A blue-lit ambulance and a fire engine can also be seen on site.
The busy road was blocked for a while and there was severe gridlock as first-responders tended to the victims and made every effort to bring the fire under control, which they eventually did.
It is not yet known how the collision happened or how many people were involved in the dramatic incident. The injuries sustained, if any, and whether those involved required hospital treatment, also remains unclear.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a car on fire at Langbank Roundabout following a crash with another vehicle, around 4pm on Friday, 16 December, 2022.
“The fire was extinguished and recovery was arranged.”
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were contacted for comment.
