Elaine Cox, Phillip's wife, told the Manchester Evening News: "Phillip was a treasure, he was one in a 1,000, people like him are a rare find.
"He was easily the most kind hearted person I knew. He was the most selfless man I knew and it's one of the main reasons I married him.
"He was my other half, we both married quite late, I was 52 years old, I am 80 now. Even though we married late, it was the best years of my life.
"He would always treat me the best he can, it was the most fun years of our lives surprisingly. He'd help with the community anyway he can, from arranging birthdays to donating when he can to foodbanks close by."
Patricia Moore, Phillip Cox's niece who attended the funeral flying in from The Falkland Islands said: "I'm not exaggerating when I say he is one of the most thoughtful people I know. He did so much for the community here in Hyde.
"I'm in one of the Hyde community groups on Facebook just to keep up with what's going on since I used too live here.
"He was an amazing person and an even better Uncle, he has left a legacy now."
