A stack of artists have sued Trax Records, the Chicago-based label that played an important role in the development of house music in the 1980s. A controversial, anti-violence activist priest in Chicago who once caught attention for his relationship with former President Barack Obama is under investigation for another sexual abuse of a minor case.  The Archdiocese of Chicago announced Saturday that Father Michael Pfleger will be under investigation for a new allegation of sexual abuse of a minor said to have taken place more than 30 years ago, according to a statement.  "Father Pfleger has been asked to step aside from ministry and live away from the parish while the allegation is investigated. He has agreed to cooperate fully with this request," Archbishop of Chicago Cardinal Blase J. Cupich said Saturday.  The allegation was reported to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and law enforcement officials.

A Chicago woman has been charged in the brutal killing of her landlord, who was found dismembered in a freezer, after she was served with an eviction notice, authorities said.  Sandra Kolalou, 36, is charged with first-degree murder and concealment of a homicide in the death of 69-year-old Frances Walker. Tenants inside the home where Francis rented rooms to people told police they heard screams around 2:30 p.m.

Escambia County Public Schools, Florida considered a proposal to revise a policy to allow parents to decide what books their children can read. At the beginning of Escambia County schools' "special workshop" on Monday, school board members addressed concerns over books that have been accessible to students.The workshop stemmed from a teacher's claim last month that over 100 books in Escambia County Public Schools violated Florida law.  "I think at some point we have to know that we have professionals working for us that are evaluating, making decisions, based on the literature that is being proposed.

Former Alabama escapee Casey White pleaded not guilty Tuesday at his arraignment on escape and felony murder charges after his alleged accomplice in the jailbreak shot herself in the head rather than face arrest. Vicky White, a former Lauderdale County, Alabama, corrections official, walked Casey White out of jail on April 29, and the duo led investigators on an 11-day manhunt spanning multiple states and involving disguises and multiple cars. The two were not related but were allegedly involved in a jailhouse romance.  Deputies in Indiana recaptured Casey White after a car chase as the alleged lovers tried to evade capture.

American chess player Hans Niemann broke his silence Wednesday after he was accused in an investigation of cheating 100 times more than he previously admitted in online matches. The Chess.com report that implicated Niemann came out before his first match at the U.S. Championship, which is an over-the-board tournament.  Video from the event showed the 19-year-old being scanned around his backside and even on the snacks he brought for the day.  Niemann had been accused of using devices to help him cheat in matches, including anal beads.

Ed Sheeran will enter his third set of court proceedings over his songwriting, with the musician set to face a jury trial following a suit from a stakeholder in the estate of Marvin Gaye‘s co-writer.The ruling came yesterday (September 29) from Judge Louis Stanton, a senior district judge for the Southern District of New York. Per Billboard, the case will determine whether Ed Sheeran’s hit single ‘Thinking Out Loud’ is in breach of copyright due to its similarities with Gaye’s 1973 single ‘Let’s Get It On’.The suit came from Structured Asset Sales, a company that owns a stake in the copyrights of the estate of Ed Townsend – a co-writer on ‘Let’s Get It On’.

allegations that chess grandmaster Hans Niemann cheated in matches against Magnus Carlsen, new evidence reveals that one of Niemann’s coaches admitted to cheating. According to emails reviewed by Motherboard, grandmaster Maxim Dlugy acknowledged he cheated in his own tournaments in 2017 and 2020 on Chess.com.The 56-year-old has been suspected of this for years and was banned from the website in 2017.But in the emails to Chess.com chief chess officer Daniel Rensch published Wednesday, Dlugy discloses that students from his Chess Max Academy were watching him play in a Chess.com tournament and that one of them used chess AI to feed him moves. In one email, Dlugy wrote that in 2017, he was playing in a tournament on Chess.com in front of his students and was crowdsourcing moves from them — which is against Chess.com’s play rules.“I am now positive, that one of the kids, was using an [sic] program on his cell while this was going on,” Dlugy admitted.
