Halsey has accused her record label, Capitol Records, of refusing to release the first single from her new album.
The pop star (who uses she/they pronouns) is currently on the road touring her latest release, industrial rock record If I Can't Love, I Want Power in the US - but apparently there is brand-new material music ready to go that's currently being blocked.
Taking to TikTok, Halsey revealed that she has a song - So Good - that she "wants to release ASAP" but Capitol are currently refusing to let her due to marketing reasons.
With the song playing in the background, Halsey added: "I’ve been in this industry for eight years and I’ve sold over 165 million records and [Capitol] are saying I that I can't release it unless they can fake a viral moment on TikTok."
Halsey elaborated more about the situation in an Instagram Live; that the song is called So Good and originally it was created as a slow and emotional track, before pushback from her label for a "big pop moment" made her take the song back to Max Martin, who has produced the new version.
For what it's worth - the song also sounds great too; a mid-tempo confessional ballad accompanied by crunchy acoustic guitars and an earnest vocal performance from Halsey...although it's definitely a world way from dark, singular world of If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power, which last year became her highest-charting album in the UK, reaching Number 5 (although memorably, no official singles were released from the LP).
A music video shot by Halsey's partner - the screenwriter Alev Aydin - has also apparently already been shot. Since the original TikTok went live, it's received over 7.5 million plays on the video sharing app.
