‘Jesse Williams and ‘Take Me Out’ Co-Stars Discuss Need for Hot Water in Infamous Shower Scenes

Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter Jesse Williams and the company of “Take Me Out” are especially grateful to the plumbing on Broadway. Without hot water flowing through the pipes at the Schonfeld Theatre, the infamous locker room scenes in the Tony-winning revival would be even more daunting to the actors who bare it all on stage. Initially, Williams jokes, the cold water that cascaded out of the showers posed a unique issue. “[The water] has to get pushed through the pipes. When it first comes out, it’s not friendly,” he says.“You’ve all seen ‘Seinfeld’… shrinkage.” Though it’s prompted plenty of chatter, the two scenes that feature the fully naked men aren’t meant to sensationalize, but rather to put the fragility of hyper-masculine egos on display.

Jesse Williams on Baring All Again in ‘Take Me Out,’ That Leaked Footage and Why He Doesn’t Watch ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

Gordon Cox Theater Editor The Tony-winning Broadway revival of “Take Me Out” returns this fall, and Jesse Williams is back with it. In Richard Greenberg’s 2002 play, the “Grey’s Anatomy” actor plays a biracial baseball player who comes out as gay at the height of his career. Why bring “Take Me Out” back to Broadway? We weren’t done. We had a lot more in the tank, and I felt like we were really hitting a new stride. The possibility of coming back was brought up to me before we even finished the first run, and frankly, I didn’t want to do it; I was tired and missed my children. But once I was able to recharge at home, I just kept thinking about the show. I’d find myself running lines in the shower or just doing scenes alone while I was sailing.

'Grey's Anatomy' Newcomer Midori Francis on Joining Season 19 and Playing a 'Messy' New Intern (Exclusive)

starts fresh in season 19 with the introduction of five bright-eyed medical interns, all hungry to make their mark on the medical world. With Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital slowly rebuilding its reputation following the dramatics of last season and Meredith stepping into the chief role, the new class of interns — played by Harry Shum Jr. (Blue), Adelaide Kane (Jules), Midori Francis (Mika), Alexis Floyd (Simone) and Niko Terho (Lucas) — are breathing new life while also harkening back to the past as the medical drama turns over a new chapter. For Francis, who portrays one of the new interns, Mika, joining the family has been as close to a full-circle moment as one can get after having grown up with the franchise as a teen and largely being inspired by Sandra Oh's iconic character, Cristina Yang.«That character and seeing her, especially in the town I grew up in in New Jersey and what I was seeing on TV at that time, it was not [every day] an Asian actor was so present, had so much screen time and was so messy and so good,» the Sex Lives of College Girls star shared in a recent phone interview with ET, adding later that «something in my gut said that this was a good move» when the opportunity arose to come onto the show. Ahead of Thursday's premiere, the 28-year-old actress discusses why she's proud to be playing an Asian character who's not buttoned-up and perfect, surprises that are in store for viewers and why Ellen Pompeo's  legacy is bigger than Meredith Grey.I was a fan.
