The 2022 series of the Great British Bake Off will go ahead as planned on Tuesday 13 September. Channel 4 has confirmed that the new series will still air as originally planned, despite many other TV channels changing their schedules due to the recent death of Queen Elizabeth II.
Both BBC One and ITV have changed their regular programming schedules after the UK entered a period of mourning for Her Majesty, who passed away at Balmoral Castle at the age of 96 on Thursday 8 September. Great British Bake Off will return to screens as planned on Tuesday in its usual 8pm slot, with a new batch of amateur bakers looking to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Dame Prue Leith.
Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding will also be returning as presenters of the 13th series of the fan-favourite baking competition. The line-up for this year's Great British Bake Off was announced earlier this month, which includes a Gemma Collins superfan, a woman who took her cat to prom and "Compost Carole" among those competing.
The news comes after Channel 4 launched the new series of Gogglebox on Friday 9 September as planned, with the broadcaster saying it would bring a “valuable sense of continuity” for many of their viewers. Channel 4 added that it had made “significant changes” to its schedule in the wake of the Queen’s death but that its purpose was to offer an “alternative” for viewers which it feels is “particularly important at times like this”.
