Fans of Grand Designs have weighed in on the latest build with devastating reviews that compared the finished project to a prison.
In the latest episode, a Derbyshire couple set out to create a dream home for the whole family. Mike and Sarah, both 56, wished to accommodate their elderly parents and two daughters with a staggering £945,000 budget.
Their vision - a modern take on a medieval longhouse - fell flat to the audience. Not known to mince words, Grand Designs viewers likened the home to other structures, from a juvenile detention centre to a tank from Star Wars.
Mike, a former medical technology CEO turned farmer, and Sarah, a shepherdess, bought 18.5 acres of land in the Derbyshire Dales for £250,000. The project kicked off with a demolition of two of the existing barns on-site.
Although the pair had nearly one million to spend on the build, they still went over budget by more than £275,000. Presenter Kevin McCloud appeared stunned after learning the news.
One of the key problems for the multi-generational home was its custom made roof. To mirror the curves of the surrounding countryside, the couple wished for their home to have an undulating, faceted roof.
However, the highly complex shape and its enormous size - 500 square metres of living space - became tricky.
One contractor said it was one of the "most difficult installations we've ever done". But in the end, builders pulled off Mike and Sarah's 21st century longhouse and the elaborate roof sitting atop it.
Touring the finished build, Kevin said: "This valley has got its very own brand new, ultra long longhouse. It looks almost military. It is military, but with a bit of copper dazzle.

The film stars Jim Parsons as Michael Ausiello, a real-life entertainment journalist who experiences the death of his partner, Kit Cowan (played by Ben Aldridge) over a prolonged 11-month period due to terminal cancer. The project also comprises a TV series which has been commissioned by TV2. Danielsen Lie will play the priest Peder Olsen who acted as Quisling’s counselor in prison until he was executed on Oct. 24, 1945.
