Gordon Ramsay's 'odd' Edinburgh restaurant served up mixed reviews

Customers have been complaining about the prices at Gordon Ramsay's new Edinburgh restaurant.

Ratings on Tripadvisor show mixed opinions about the posh eatery since it opened last year.

Ramsay's Bread Street Kitchen & Bar is the TV chef's only venue in the city.

There were rave reviews with one happy punter heaping praise on the restaurant, located at the city's St Andrew's Square.

Edinburgh Live reports one woman said her family of five loved the food on offer and gave it 5/5 on Tripadvisor.

She said: “The staff were delightful and I can’t praise them highly enough. My 12 year old son was in awe of the waiter who was so kind and made such a fuss of him.”

“It is not cheap with a bill of almost £500, but it was worth it. We all ate very well and could have dined for £150 if we ordered cheaper items from the menu and side stepped the £80 bottle of red wine."

But another said their lacklustre experience made them sure the Scots star would be less than impressed himself.

They gave the restaurant a rating of 2/5, complained about the cost and slammed the time it took to get served.

They said: “I was looking forward to this since it opened however I was very disappointed at the mediocre food that was served. £36 for a steak that was more rare than medium and considering there are a lot of steak restaurants in the area far better at cooking a steak you really need to up your game.

“Service was slow which I can deal with however waiting for over 20 minutes without a drink is not acceptable.

“Total disappointment and not worth the money, if Gordon did a mystery diner on his own restaurant I don’t think he would be impressed.”

Another low rating came from one customer who said they were confused about what was being served up.
