Golden Globes: Daniel Kaluuya and John Boyega are first winners

Before he became an A-list actor and one of the leads in the “Star Wars” universe, John Boyega really broke out in 2011, thanks to the sci-fi action film, “Attack the Block.” And though that film didn’t necessarily become a massive blockbuster, “Attack the Block” did develop a pretty strong cult following and earn critical acclaim quickly after its debut at the SXSW Film Festival.

And, no, we’re not even referring to the controversy over the HFPA’s lack of Black membership or questionable practices within the organization itself (which was mentioned numerous times by the hosts, nominees, and winners).

It’s that time of year again—where the biggest names in Hollywood get all glammed up, gather in front of their webcams, and wait for their Zoom meeting to begin so they can find out who won this year’s Golden Globes. With COVID-19 still a major issue in the US and around the world, this year’s 78th Annual Golden Globes Awards did things a bit differently, as the ceremony was mostly a digital affair but with some familiar elements.

Golden Globes have begun, with hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler joining from New York City and Los Angeles respectively. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the ceremony looks a little different this year.

Daniel Kaluuya is a Golden Globe winner! The 32-year-old actor was presented with the award for Best Supporting Actor for  at Sunday night's award show, but his speech was almost cut due to a technical difficulty. It appears he accidentally muted his microphone during the beginning of his acceptance speech. «As you can see, we unfortunately have a bad connection » Laura Dern said as she presented the first award of the night.
