A messy situation. The 79th annual Golden Globes are set for Sunday, January 9, but it’s still unknown what exactly that will look like.

Entering a subdued Beverly Hilton ballroom, Snoop and HFPA president Helen Hoehne announced this year’s nominations a bit like it was business as usual.But it was clearly not.

Golden Globes have been announced, which kicks off the beginning of the awards season.The Power Of The Dog and Belfast lead the pack for the film awards, scoring seven nods each including acting nods for Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst and Kodi Smit-McPhee for the former, and Catriona Balfe, Jamie Dornan and Ciarán Hinds for the latter.

The 2022 Golden Globe nominations have officially been announced with hit TV shows like "Hacks" and "Only Murders in the Building" getting recognition alongside movies like "Belfast" and "Dune."  Thanks to Netflix's far international reach with streaming, foreign-language TV hits like "Lupin" and "Squid Game" were given nominations after getting mainstream attention on the platform.

What if you held a Golden Globes and no one was there, or really cared?

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association wasn't shy about addressing its diversity scandal while announcing its 2022 Golden Globe nominations.  A large shadow was cast across this year's Golden Globe nominations after NBC announced it wouldn't broadcast the show until it addressed some key issues it was having when it came to the diversity of its voting pool. The press association, often ridiculed, even by its own hosts, this year went from punchline to pariah.

Even though the 2022 Golden Globes show will not be airing on NBC, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has announced that the awards will still be handed out next year, and the nominees were just released.

The show must go on. The list of nominees for the 79th Golden Globe Awards were released on Monday, December 13, after NBC previously announced that it will not air the show due to the scandal with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

NBC has decided not to air the telecast.The mega-network cut ties with the organization and will not be involved in next year’s awards show upon deciding its parent corporation, The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, needs “meaningful reform.”NBC announced the news back in May, issuing the statement, “We continue to believe that the HFPA is committed to meaningful reform. However, change of this magnitude takes time and work, and we feel strongly that the HFPA needs time to do it right.

Does an awards show exist in a vacuum? If there is no telecast to showcase it does it matter? If studios and networks are expected to ignore it is it even worthy of anyone’s attention? Those are just some of the questions facing the 2022 Golden Globes. An awards show or ceremony (we’ll see) that no one was expecting after personal publicists and the industry as a whole demanded changes from its governing body, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, this spring and summer.
