‘Godzilla vs. King Kong’ set to become highest-grossing film of pandemic

Patrick Frater Asia Bureau ChiefAward-winning Chinese sci-fi novel “Folding Beijing” will move into production as a movie later this year, following a green light from mainland China studio Wanda Film.The film, titled “Folding City” is to be helmed by Josh Kim, the Korean-American director who previously made a splash with adolescent drama “How to Win at Checkers (Every Time)”. The film was selected as Thailand’s Oscar contender in 2015.

Netflix US has announced a slate of films that are set to release this year. From documentaries to romantic comedies and action-packed thrillers, as many as 30 films have been announced.

The 21st Annual Black Reel Awards took place today with Warner Bros’ rousing drama, Judas and the Black Messiah, taking the marquee Outstanding Film award. In addition, stars Daniel Kaluuya and Dominique Fishback were bestowed with the Outstanding Supporting Actor and  Outstanding Supporting Actress award, respectively. Producers Charles King, Ryan Coogler, and Shaka King become the first all-African American team to win Outstanding Picture.

Godzilla vs Kong seems to have put theatres back in business and has become that film which is successfully boosting the confidence for theatre owners and studios who have been plagued with worries owing to the pandemic. The COVID-19 crisis put a hold on the theatre business and the Adam Wingard film seems to have come as a saviour.
