First, the story had to be told from the perspective of Mamie, the mother of Emmett Till. “We had to follow closely her emotional journey. For without Mamie, the world, we, would not have known who Emmett Till was.”

Joe Otterson TV Reporter Alice Braga and Jimmi Simpson are the latest additions to Apple’s series adaptation of the Blake Crouch novel “Dark Matter.” The pair join previously announced leads Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly. The nine-episode series was ordered at Apple back in March. Emily Longeretta Maggie is back! Missy Peregrym, who left CBS’ “FBI” in April for maternity leave, has returned to set and is filming again, showrunner Rick Eid tells Variety. When viewers last saw her in Season 4, Maggie was hospitalized after breathing in sarin gas on a case. While OA (Zeeko Zaki) was able to rescue her in time and save her life, the episode ended with him at her bedside, letting her know that he has no interest in doing the job without her. Now, as Maggie and OA are reunited, he’s more protective than ever. “The first two episodes explore that dynamic. We explore OA’s attempt to be overly protective and Maggie trying to stake out her own lane in this new chapter of their partnership. Perhaps OA is blaming himself for certain things he shouldn’t be blaming himself for, so we definitely explore their partnership,” says Eid. “It’s not always easy to come back after eight or nine months after something like this happens. It’s not just on the person who actually suffered the injury. It’s also complicated for the person who didn’t suffer the injury but maybe blames himself for the other person suffering the injury. We dig a little bit into that kind of psychology.”

Vic Mensa donated $10,000 (£8,779) in fuel and also gave away some pre-rolled weed joints to Chicago residents earlier this month.The Chicago rapper visited his Southside neighbourhood over the recent Labour Day weekend (September 3-5) to promote his new cannabis business, 93 Boyz, with plenty of freebies for unsuspecting locals.According to a press release [via HipHopDX], Mensa helped fuel approximately 200 vehicles at a local BP gas station and handed out a pocket-full of pre-rolled cannabis joints.In a video clip shared by TMZ, an emotional woman is seen telling Mensa that she showed up at a pump with $5 (£4.39) and was worried that she wouldn’t be able to buy enough fuel to get her granddaughter to work.A post shared by @vicmensaMensa founded 93 Boyz, which is Chicago’s first Black-owned cannabis business, over the summer.Cannabis has been legal in the state of Illinois since January 2020 and as part of the brand’s mission the company will continue performing acts of charity for inner city minorities.“The brand was founded by Chicago-born musician and activist Vic Mensa with a vision of lifting up the neighbourhoods around him while lifting spirits across the state. A shooting near a "Chicago Fire" production set was just part of the "unbelievable" scene that unfolded Wednesday in front of A.A. Rayner & Sons Funeral Homes. A real fire broke out down the street, causing confusion among residents who thought the actors were real firefighters choosing not to respond to the blaze.

The Story of Film: A New Generation opens at two dozen theaters this weekend — Laemmle Royal in LA, Museum of the Moving Image in NY, Music Box Theatre in Chicago and Brattle in Cambridge. It’s a mix of arthouses, cinematheques, museums and even a few multiplexes for Mark Cousins’ follow-up to his 15-hour, 2011 opus The Story Of Film: An Odyssey. (This one clocks a relatively brief three hours.)
