Susanna Reid was on the verge of tears as she hailed Deborah James as "inspirational" following the BBC podcast host's emotional goodbye post. In a heartbreaking post shared on her Instagram on Monday evening, 40 year old Deborah, who was diagnosed with bowel cancer five years earlier, revealed that her "body isn't playing ball" and that she'd been moved to hospice care at home.

Richard Madeley praised Deborah for being "extraordinarily frank and open, right the way through." Susanna nodded in agreement before adding: "Really important work that you've done, Deborah." Later in the episode, Dr Hilary acknowledged that campaigner Deborah had "undoubtedly saved many lives" by raising awareness.
He said: "She is an extraordinary person. She has always tried to remove the stigma of bowel cancer with humour and good humour.

Dr Hilary also reminded people of the main symptoms of bowel cancer, including blood in bowel movements, a change in toilet habits, unexplained weight loss, exhaustion and tiredness,
