Pubs and restaurants across Glasgow were left with no option but to close after a burst main left around 100,000 properties without water. Businesses missed out on a night of trading with supplies down across much of the city following the incident on Auchenhowie Road, Milngavie.
A huge crack could be seen in the road, with floodwater flowing down the street. Scottish Water worked to sort the issue and restore water to the affected premises.
Much of the city centre and west end was without water, meaning hospitality businesses in some of Glasgow's most popular areas were forced to shut. Punters were turned away from popular haunts on streets including Argyle Street, Bath Street, Ashton Lane, Hope Street, and Great Western Road.
Italian restaurant Sarti, based on Bath Street, said they were just one of many businesses with a G2 postcode left with no water and unable to open their doors. Nearby whisky and ale pub The Pot Still said they had "no option but to close" and would reassess the situation in the morning.
Popular Ashton Lane bar and restaurant Brel also had to shut early, as did Curler's Rest just around the corner on Byres Road. Irish bar and nightclub Kitty O'Shea's on nearby Great Western Road also closed its doors for the evening.
Iconic institution Sloans said on Facebook: "Closed for tonight! Due to a burst water pipe affecting multiple areas across Glasgow, we have had to close Sloans early this evening. We hope to be open to welcome all our wonderful customers back tomorrow."
Although the Ovo Hydro was able to go ahead with the Lewis Calpadi concert this evening despite issues, other venues have had to cancel. Old Sea Brigade's sold out gig at The Hug and Pint has had to be postponed.
