George R.R. Martin Reveals The HBO Max-Discovery+ Merger Shelved A Couple Of ‘Game Of Thrones’ Spinoff Shows In Development

Starz has rescued Minx, starring Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson, following its HBO Max cancellation. The Lionsgate-owned premium network has stepped in to pick up both Season 1 and the unaired Season 2 of the period erotic comedy, produced by Lionsgate Television.

HBO Max is increasing its monthly price to $15.99 from $14.99 today, the first uptick in pricing since the streaming service launched in May 2020.

SkyShowtime has struck its first major content deal, picking up exclusive rights to 21 HBO Max Europe originals, most of which were ditched by the streamer last year following its European programing cull.

Earlier this week, James Gunn hinted on social media at a big announcement that he and fellow DC Studios co-head Peter Safran will make about the DCU‘s future later this month. Any word on what that announcement officially covers? Not really, only that it’ll deal with the first three years of Gunn and Safran’s eight to ten year plan.

With all the current upheaval at DC Studios, it feels as if there’s only one sure thing for the DCU in the years ahead: Matt Reeves‘ “The Batman” films and their HBO Max spinoff shows. Don’t expect Reeves’ sequel to last year’s hit for a few years, but “The Penguin” with Colin Farrell enters production next month.

Leslie Grace is giving us a look at the Batgirl costume that might have been. In a look-back end-of-year video posted on Instagram, Grace, who would have starred in the titular role in the HBO Max film, has shared some behind-the-scenes photos and clips during filming of Batgirl, which was permanently shelved by Warner Bros. and DC Films earlier this year. It was to have bowed on HBO Max sometime in 2023.

A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin has offered yet another update on the status of future Game of Thrones projects, sharing that the franchise’s path ahead will “certainly” be shaped to one degree or another by current tumult at HBO Max.

To say that there has been quite a bit of turmoil and fan confusion surrounding DC Studios as we end 2022 is an understatement. And it’s not like everything was hunky dory before James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as co-CEOs in November.

James Gunn is clearing things up about the fate of HBO Max’s Green Lantern series which has been in development for years now.

Whatever happened with HBO’s hit series, “True Detective,” you ask? The short version is essentially this. Series creator and writer Nic Pizzolatto essentially parted ways with HBO.

HBO Max’s cancelation of voguing competition series Legendary has not gone down well in the LGBTQ+ community.

Bilal Baig and Fab Filippo’s comedy series Sort Of has been renewed for a third season at HBO Max.
