Gemma Collins breaks silence on hidden self-harm battle she found 'shameful'

Gemma Collins has shared a first look at her upcoming moving documentary where she opens up for the very first time about her painful battle with self-harm. The Channel 4 programme, which will air on Wednesday 16 February, sees Gemma going on a personal journey, as she tells her loved ones how she secretly struggled for two decades.
And it looks to be a very emotional watch, as The Only Way is Essex star Gemma fights back tears as she explains she felt ‘shame’ keeping her turmoil to herself. In the short clip, the 41 year old can be seen talking to her mum Joan, partner Rami Hawash and close friends, as well as support groups.

As scenes from the documentary play out, Gemma attends a group session to speak about her experiences. She tells the group of four: “I was getting overwhelming emotion and I couldn’t cope with it.” In another part, she continues: “It’s something that I buried for twenty years.” While other moments in the video show Gemma fighting back tears, as she says to someone: “It’s not like a normal conversation you can have with someone.” Further opening up about her experiences: “I never told anyone because it was shameful and I was scared.” Later, she adds: “I wish I was brave enough to ask for help.
I could have saved myself a lot of pain.” The trailer also shows heartfelt conversation between Gemma and her mum, as well as Gemma and Rami, as the star discusses her painful past.
