American singer Gayle has flown to Number 1 on the Official Irish Singles Chart with abcdefu, as new and old songs flood back into the Top 50 post-Christmas.
Gayle, aged just 17, climbs five places to Number 1 with her breakout single, which grew in popularity thanks in part to major viral success. It’s Gayle’s first ever Number 1 single in Ireland, and holds off Adele’s Easy On Me (2) by fewer than 10 chart sales.
Do It To It by Acraze ft. Cherish flies 21 places to a brand new peak of Number 3, while We Don’t Talk About Bruno by the cast of Encanto – the first of several tracks from the new animated Disney musical – enters the Top 50 for the first time at Number 4. Other Encanto soundtrack songs in this week’s Top 50 are Surface Pressure by Jessica Darrow (16), and The Family Madrigal by Stephanie Beatriz and Olga Merediz (48).
At Number 5, Lost Frequencies earn a new peak for Where Are You Now ft. Calum Scott, and Sam Fender also scoops a new peak with Seventeen Going Under at Number 6. Dermot Kennedy’s Better Days returns to the Top 10 at Number 7.
Further down, there are new peaks for The Motto by Tiesto & Ava Max, back in the chart at Number 22, and Fireboy DML & Ed Sheeran’s Peru which jumps 16 to Number 25.
Floridian indie-folk band The 502s enter the Top 50 for the first time with Just A Little While at Number 29, while D-Block Europe’s Overseas ft. Central Cee lands at Number 31; D-Block Europe also see Make You Smile ft. AJ Tracey fly into the chart this week at Number 50.
Finally, Make Me Feel Good by Dublin’s Belters Only collective ft. Jazzy flies in at Number 32. The sleeper hit which was originally released in July 2021, enters the Official Irish Charts for the first time today after going viral online

Glass Animals have become the first UK band to reach the top of Spotify‘s global singles chart.The Oxford four-piece have hit the heights through the continued success of their 2020 single ‘Heat Waves’, which originally featured on their third studio album ‘Dreamland’.The track, which has been streamed over 1.1billion times on Spotify, has now hit the top of Spotify’s Global Top 50 Chart, making Glass Animals the first British band to reach the top spot.‘Heat Waves’, which is solely credited to Glass Animals frontman Dave Bayley, is currently amassing over 4.26million streams a day on Spotify.The song has been nominated for a BRIT Award for ‘Song Of The Year’, while Glass Animals are up for both Best Band In The World and Best Band From The UK: Supported by Pizza Express at the BandLab NME Awards 2022.‘Heat Waves’, which was re-released in March 2021 featuring a new verse by Iann Dior, helped Glass Animals make US chart history back in November.The song reached number 10 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 for the first time that month, having already spent 42 weeks on the chart.It was the longest climb to the top 10 in US chart history: beating American Idol winner Carrie Underwood, whose 2006 single ‘Before He Cheats’ took 38 weeks to reach the same position.
