‘Gattaca’ Reboot Series in Development at Showtime

Elsa Keslassy International Correspondent France TV Distribution has scored a raft of deals across its slate of flagship shows, notably Noé Debré’s political satire “Parliament,” whose second season was picked up by Topic in the U.S. “Parliament,” produced by Paris-based Cinétévé, was created by Debré, whose screenwriting include Jacques Audiard’s Palme d’Or winning “Dheepan.” The series is set at the European parliament in Strasbourg and follows a young assistant working for a newly elected member, juggling his ethics, job and love life. The 10-episode series features a young cast from across Europe, including Xavier Lacaille, Liz Kingsman and Philippe Duquesne. The daring show shot partly on location in both French and English languages.

While it doesn’t look like we’re getting a new Potterverse film anytime soon, there is development on the small-screen side of things that will see audiences possibly return to Hogwarts. As a report from Bloomberg claims that a “Harry Potter” reboot series is now in the early stages of development at HBO that seemingly is being tailored for their streaming service, HBO Max.

Harry Potter book series.According to Bloomberg, each season of the series would be based on one of Rowling’s seven main entries in the Harry Potter series, potentially meaning a franchise that spans many years for the entertainment conglomerate.Bloomberg’s unnamed sources indicate that talks are still in a relatively preliminary stage, and Rowling has not yet signed off. As part of the deal, it’s believed Rowling would have some level of involvement in the series “to ensure it remains loyal to her original material”, but would not be its primary creator or showrunner.Warner Bros.

Harry Potter is back!

J. Kim Murphy Warner Bros. Discovery is looking to close a deal to produce a “Harry Potter” television series. According to Bloomberg, which was first to report news of recent talks surrounding the project, the project would be directly based on J.K. Rowling’s best-selling book series, rather than an in-universe spinoff such as the “Fantastic Beasts” film series. Each season would reportedly draw from one of the books, suggesting an ongoing franchise that would stretch for years for the studio. Sources close to the situation suggest that talks between Warner Bros. Discovery and Rowling’s camp remain in a preliminary state. The studio is looking to house the series under its streaming banner HBO Max, soon to be combined with Discovery+ and rebranded under a new name.

The iconic ITV game show was a TV staple when it aired for eight seasons in the 1990s, and made stars of a its many musclemen and women.

Frightened Rabbit and Death Cab For Cutie is up for auction to raise money for mental health charity Tiny Changes.The charity was set up by the family of late Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison, who died by suicide in May 2018.It aims to improve mental health in children and young people in Scotland and takes its name from a lyric from the Frightened Rabbit song ‘Head Rolls Off’ (“While I’m alive, I’ll make tiny changes to Earth”).Announcing the auction on Instagram, Tiny Changes wrote: “Kindly donated by @grabbit @frabbits, this special, one-of-a-kind Fender Jazz Bass guitar was signed by both Frightened Rabbit and @deathcabforcutie during their 2011 summer tour in the USA.“We’re auctioning this unique piece of musical history to help boost the total of our very first Make Tiny Changes Month – a campaign that’s raised over £15k so far this March for young people’s mental health.”The auction went live at 9pm yesterday (March 26) and is set to close in nine days. Showtime has canceled “The L-Word: Generation Q,” TheWrap has confirmed.The series, a sequel to Showtime’s 2004-2009 series “The L-Word,” premiered in 2019 and wrapped up its third season in January. Amber Dowling If you’ve been missing Jack Bauer in your life, Kiefer Sutherland’s latest TV gig won’t disappoint. In “Rabbit Hole,” Paramount+’s slick new action thriller, Sutherland takes up the mantle of a present-day Robin Hood: one who robs the rich with elevated psychology and predictive behavior in order to help the causes he cares about. Until, of course, it all goes wrong, and John Weir becomes the accused murderer at the center of a massive conspiracy, and is forced to go on the run. And that’s when the real fun (or the rabbit hole, if you must) begins. The pilot sets up this premise spectacularly, with plenty of special effects and street shots (the show filmed in Toronto, but is set in New York). Viewers quickly learn about Weir’s paranoid disposition and his traumatic past while setting him up as the skilled swindler you can’t help rooting for. Sure, this guy is a criminal, and has an FBI agent (Enid Graham) tailing him, but he’s got rules, so it’s OK.

What’s David Robert Mitchell been up to lately? Well, since “Under The Silver Lake,” not much, but that’s about to change. Deadline reports that Mitchell has his next project lined up at Warner Bros., and the director is teaming up with Anne Hathaway and the Bad Robot crew for a new mystery project.

Andrew Niccol‘s 1997 directorial debut “Gattaca” is low-key one of the best sci-fi films of the ’90s. Now, Variety reports that Showtime will test the movie’s cultural cache as it has a series adaptation in development.

Exact plot details on the series are still under wraps, but sources say that Alex Gansa is attached to serve as showrunner and executive producer, with Gansa’s partner Howard Gordon also executive producing. They co-created the show with Craig Borten, who also executive produces. Sony Pictures Television will produce, with Gansa and Gordon currently under an overall deal at independent studio. Sources stress that deals for the project are not yet closed. Showtime and Sony declined to comment.
