FX Orders Lauren Ludwig Comedy Pilot, Chris and Paul Weitz to Produce

Selome Hailu George Lopez and Mayan Lopez’s NBC comedy pilot “Lopez vs. Lopez” has cast Laci Mosley and Kiran Deol in recurring roles and set Kelly Park to direct, Variety has learned exclusively.The multi-cam pilot starring the Lopezes is described as a working-class family comedy about dysfunction, reconnection and all the pain and joy in between.Mosley will play Brookie, Mayan’s co-worker and best friend who always knows what’s trending (and sometimes it’s her feet pics).

Selome Hailu Evangeline Young has been cast as Charlotte Walton in “The Son in Law,” a comedy pilot from ABC.“The Son in Law” stars Chris Sullivan as Jake, a single father who never thought he would love again, until Asha came along. The problem is that Jake, a hard-working plumbing contractor, is solidly middle class, while Asha hails from the equivalent of uber-wealthy South Asian royalty.

Evangeline Young  (ABC’s Emergence) has been cast as a series regular opposite Chris Sullivan in ABC’s comedy pilot The Son in Law. In addition to Sullivan, she joins previously cast series regulars Reema Sampat, Meera Simhan and Anupam Kher.

Brent Lang Executive Editor of Film and MediaMagnolia Pictures has acquired North American rights to “I Love My Dad,” one of the biggest breakouts from this year’s SXSW.Critics loved “I Love My Dad” reserving particular praise for the direction of James Morosini and for Patton Oswalt’s lead performance. The movie, which won the Grand Jury Prize for Narrative Feature as well as the Narrative Feature Competition Audience Award at the festival, certainly gets points for originality.

Meera Simhan (The Flash) is set as a lead opposite Reema Sampat and Chris Sullivan in The Son In Law, ABC’s single-camera comedy pilot from 20th Television.

The show follows Asha’s relationship with Jake (Chris Sullivan), a plumber who is older and significantly less wealthy than Asha and her family, of which Asha’s mother disapproves.

Netflix has acquired worldwide rights to Sony Pictures’ action-comedy The Man from Toronto, starring Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson, Deadline can confirm. The film previously scheduled for release in theaters on August 12 will now bow on the streamer in all territories apart from China later this year.

Former Timeless star Malcolm Barrett has been tapped as the lead of the CBS comedy pilot The Hug Machine. Michaela Conlin and Allison Guinn also will star in the project, from Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist executive producer Sam Laybourne, Lonely Island’s Jorma Taccone and CBS Studios.

FX has ordered the pilot of an untitled half-hour comedy written by Lauren Ludwig (American Auto, Rob Riggle’s Ski Master Academy).

The Breaking Bad actor was seen with his newborn child’s car seat in hand as they left the restaurant together. As Aaron, 42, carried their baby, Lauren, 35, was clearly a doting mother as she looked down to keep an eye on their newborn. It looked like a super sweet day for the family.

Krysta Rodriguez (Halston) and Lauren Lapkus (Good Girls) have been tapped as the leads in CBS’ multi-camera comedy pilot Sober Companion, from Jane the Virgin creator/executive producer Jennie Snyder Urman and CBS Studios, where Urman is under an overall deal.
