Vandals who defaced the city’s Cathedral with graffiti have been slammed as a ‘disgrace’ by council officials.
Graffiti appeared on the Cathedral earlier today (July 26) near to the Glade of Light memorial, which commemorates the 22 people who were killed in the 2017 Arena bombing. The graffiti which appeared on the church is not believed to be related to that atrocity.
The words ‘Kitty’ and ‘#GMD’ were sprawled in black paint on stone walls of the 600-year-old religious site. Another illegible word was sprayed on a wooden door near to the clock tower.

Now, council officials have blasted the culprits as a ‘disgrace’. City centre spokesperson, Pat Karney, said: “The council has responded saying it's going to go and clear it up.
“It is a disgrace to put graffiti on a sacred place like the cathedral, and for it to be opposite the Glade of Light. The council are very vigilant and if they catch whoever did this we will take them to court.”
Last month, Anwar Hosseni was given a two-year community order for vandalising the nearby mural in February. The 24-year-old actor told the police he was making the scratches with a crystal ‘Buddhist head figure’, making ‘light language’ to express ‘love, unity and gratitude’ to the 22 who sadly died in the attack.
The damage cost a staggering £10,768.80, the court heard.
